Common ADAS Safety Features in European Cars

Most Audi cars are now equipped with Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS), which require specialist attention to correctly adjust procedures including wheel alignment and geometry check, suspension or steering replacement, or especially after an accident which may involve any repair.

Common ADAS Features

Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)

Provides a visual or audible warning if the vehicle is approaching a slower-moving or stationary object and can automatically apply the vehicle’s brakes if the driver does not take appropriate action to avoid a collision.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

Cruise control that automatically alters the speed of the vehicle maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front.

Adaptive Lighting Control (ALC)

Some adaptive lighting systems use the vehicle’s camera to detect the headlights of oncoming traffic at night and automatically dip the vehicle’s lights.

Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)
These systems use the vehicle’s cameras to detect the road markings and will either provide an alert or automatically adjust the steering if it detects the vehicle change course without indicating.

Blind Spot Detection

Radar sensors monitor zones at the side and rear of the vehicle and provide a visual alert when other road users are within the driver’s blind spot.

Road Sign Recognition (RSR)

The vehicle’s camera ‘reads’ the speed limit signs at the side of the road, or on overhead gantries, and the speed limit is displayed on the vehicle’s dashboard or infotainment screen. In future, similar systems will be used to automatically limit the vehicle’s speed.

Parking Assist

The vehicle’s cameras and sensors scan for an appropriate parking space and automatically apply steering and braking inputs to assist the driver with parking the vehicle.

How To Know When to Service Brakes for Any Car

Regular brake pad inspections are essential to ensure they are in optimal condition. Inspecting brake pads regularly ensures that the braking system functions correctly and alerts to potential wear before it becomes catastrophic.

Depending on driving habits, terrain, city driving elements, quality of replacement brake pads, rotor thickness, and type of vehicle, brake pads can wear out every 15,000-30,000 KM.

As with any other part of your vehicle, preventative maintenance is key to keeping them at their best. This prevents that dreaded sound of brake pads from wearing down, which can be alarming for someone who doesn't know what it sounds like. Failing to conduct a regular bi-yearly preventative brake inspection, when you start to hear that metal-to-metal squeak, it’s time to book an appointment for a brake inspection.
